blood trail

This week was a very distracting one in the fact that hunting season opener was Saturday. So after making it through the week and doing my best to sleep Friday night the morning finally came. Up at 5:20 am to be in my stand by 6:30 I was. After sitting in my stand for all of 20 min a nice sized doe walked out. I shot it and it fell over. Much to my surprise it stood up and started to walk away so i shot it again. Yet again it fell over stood up and started to walk away i watched it walk about 200 feet and lay down so i waited it out. After 10 min i gotout of my stand walked up to the doe and watched it stand up and start walking away from me. I was going to shoot again but my cousin was in a stand not far behind it so i couldnt shoot. after walking it right to my cousin i stood back to watch it walk past her up and over a hill and disappear. When i asked her y she didnt shoot it she said she didnt have a doe tag. So up to the top of the hill i went to find that the deer was not there. Sad times after looking for the blood trail and not finding it where i had last seen the deer i was forced to give up. While registering the buck i was able to shoot and clean i was talking to some other hunters. They were holding a new piece of equipment that was made for following blood trails. it was a uv flash light that was able to detect blood in the smallest traces. With this new find next season we will be able to take away one of the biggest challenges in the hunting game. Now to over come the hours of boredom while sitting in the stand seeing nothing.

out dated equipment

So I have been in college for sometime now and  worked on many different types of Cisco equipment. My only complaint is that we much of it is out dated and no longer on the market. What is the point of us having to learn how to configure equipment that have been more then improved upon and taken out of production for a reason. When asked our teachers tell us this is the equipment we have to use and you will experience the use of outdated equipment when you get in the real world. This maybe true but to work on equipment that is no longer even touched in the real world seems pointless not to mention have a whole class around it.

campus registration

So the time for registering for our awesome classes of the next semester is upon us. As of this summer we had the totally awesome misfortune of having to use the program people soft. At a quick glance this program looks as if it might be all that. Its flashy most of the things look easy enough to get to, but thats about where it stops. where in the past we could look up our classes click a check box look up others then click register and you were in rolled into your classes has now been replaced with look up classes, add to shopping cart, restart, then try to find your shopping cart and transfer to the enroll page, then go to the enroll page and one at a time register for your classes. What used to take 3 min to do now takes you almost a half hour to do let alone if there is a scheduling conflict? This program really needs to be looked threw again and be made more user friendly.

All hollows eve

So this week we really didn't cover too much in the world of technology. This was the week of the ever so famous all hollows eve. The one week of the year where past collage students are supposed to rise from the dead and come drink with you. Well as far as I can tell there is a much better chance of this happening over home coming. Though I have to admit if you are out looking for what girl can wear the least and still show as lil as possible this is defiantly the holiday for you. So as far as technology goes for this week about the most excitement I had was getting my legit copy of widows 7. Not much of a parade type of event but still rather excited with it. this now means not only can I reinstall multiple time but I can try get support from Microsoft seeing how this is the first legit copy of any operating system I have ever owned. I do have to say windows 7 lives up to its name saying it will do everything vista couldn't do.

disasters

In today's world we rely so much on our technology that when something happens we can hardly function with out it. Just the other day a female friend of mine called me almost in tears because the power was out and she couldn't blow dry her hair. Have we become so dependent in our every day life on technology that if a we lost it we couldn't function? I would really like to say no but sometimes I really question this. Take camping for instance. When you go to a campground you see less and less tents and you never see a lean two anymore. Everyone has these fancy tailors with ac a fridge and tv's. I know kids that have grown up and never slept on the ground while starring up at a star lit sky. All I'm saying is i think we are becoming to dependent on our own creations and loosing the richness that is the world

this week

This week is a rather difficult one to rant on not much was really covered in the technology department for me. However one thing I would like to touch on is cell phones. Why is it that they can’t make a cell phone that lasts anymore? I am on my second phone this year and it’s already going to hell. I got this one in February brand new and already the back button has stopped working and a few buttons are falling off. After paying $200 for a phone I would sure hope it would last. The first phone I had this year had the ear piece speaker blow on me in 3 weeks time.

Future Jobs

So this week my school had there annual career fair. I am a senior and will be branching out into the "real world" this may. So i decided to really take advantage of this valuable resource. With a new shirt and tie on resume in hand i showed up for the day my major had been assigned. Last year we had about 20 different companies show up for the IT field this year only 6 showed. As i worked the room excitement was slowly draining.   Three of the companies weren't looking for interns or to hire at all they were just there to get there name out. the last 3 had such high expectations that I didn't come close to reaching so for now its hit the books hard excel in class and see what there is for jobs out there come march.

reflectiions

There are many diffrent things that i learned this week. some more usefull then others. One thing that i liked the most is that even if your class room is set up for 16 students they will try to fit 30 into the class saying they dont have enough interest in the course to open another class. Anyone who has had to learn in this situation knows how hard it is to get the work you need to do done as well as stay focused. On the plus side tho the dean of students did show up and saw that  a bunch of us were sitting at fold up tables which blocked walk ways and fire paths so he is looking into a class room change. Other things i have learned are there are two ways to look at every technology situation in the business world. When a situation comes up there is a technological way to look at it and then everyone elses view of it. when you are on the technological side of things its hardly a matter of money.  you are more looking at what will allow you to expand , what will make your life easier, and sometimes just the model number. Now on the buisness side of things its how much will this cost, what is the return on profit margin,  could you use a diffrent cheaper model and still make this work. These are great things to see before you get into the industry because they allow you to see both sides of things and how to plan your responses.
